The Electrical Panel Builder is responsible for precise fabrication of high quality electrical panels using panel drawings, schematics and hand tools to effectively complete product assembly to exact specifications.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of tasks to assemble electronic components, subassemblies, products, or systems. Reads work orders, electrical schematics, production drawings and reviews sample assemblies. Cut manual cutouts on enclosures.
Connects wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points. Cuts wire to specified lengths and routes, combs, twists, wraps, ties, and attaches wire to terminal points.
Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other using mechanical drawings and layouts. Installs finished assemblies or subassemblies in cases and cabinets.
Mounts assembled control components, such as transformers, control relays, circuit breakers, drives, power supplies, on chassis panel using crimps, screws, bolts, rivets, solder, or perform similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, power tools, and automation equipment.
Engraves/prints tags for enclosures, back plates and wire numbers. Create lamacoid tags using AutoCAD.
Assembles and attaches hardware, such as caps, clamps, knobs, and switches, to electrical control assemblies.
Performs in production inspection, conducts functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harness, and plugs, using an ohmmeter, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards.
Inspection of final product according to drawings.
Assist with Shipping & Receiving of job material and parts and for inspection and packaging of final product.
Help to assist with other projects during downtime.
Knowledge of features, benefits and use/application of manufacturing process with a strong focus on Electrical and Automation products, panel building and related product lines. Knowledge of electromechanical devices (breakers, motor starters, contactors, and other components etc.) Rockwell Automation (Allen Bradley) and SMC product knowledge and experience a plus.
Experience with panel fabrication and build, component lay out, electrical enclosures, electrical assemblies, and controls a must.
Proficiency with hand tools (jigsaw, drill, taps) required.
Strong attention to detail needed. Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and processes. Good communication, interpersonal skills, good verbal and written skills.
Ability to operate fork truck, hand truck and other material handling equipment may be required. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, reach, stoop, remain standing for extended periods of time.
Two year Electrical or Mechanical or Machining Technology degree preferred. Must have two years hands-on industrial electrical control panel build experience.
